What is a Microwave therapy?

Microwave is a new technology developed in the UK. The technology has been licensed for the general treatment of skin lesions in Podiatry. The technique uses microwave energy, delivered through a special probe applied to the skin to treat the infected tissue.

Does it hurt?

Like many treatments for skin lesions, some minor discomfort may be experienced. Pain levels vary from person to person but most people undergoing Microwave therapy experience a pain similar to an injection or a scratch, lasting 2 - 3 seconds then quickly subsiding.

How Microwave works?

Microwave energy rapidly elevates tissue temperature and creates precise, localised cell destruction.

Treated tissue is quickly replaced, repaired and regenerated.

How many treatments are needed?

This is dependent on how a patient responds to treatment. A minimum of three treatments are recommended, usually three to four weeks apart.

Your Podiatrist at AKS will be able to discuss this with you.

Discomfort following treatment?

In some cases, the treated area may feel sore and MAY get a blister but should not prevent the patient to undertake normal daily activities.

Can anyone receive this treatment?

With a few exceptions, most people with skin lesions would be able to have this treatment. Your Podiatrist at AKS will carry out an assessment prior to treatment and be able to advise suitability of this treatment.
